I'm searching for mythology and folklore involving amphibians and reptiles. I started teaching at a Montessori school and got a call the other day about a spur-of-the-moment lesson plan involving local animals. I have to come up with stories involving frogs, newts, salamanders, and reptiles for tomorrow's lesson! The kids are doing a mud-walk tomorrow to look for tadpoles.
I'm trying to get thigns from different cultures so we can slip in a geography lesson as well, So far I have some info on:
Egypt- Heket
Mexico- Centeotl- goddess of childbirth, fertiliry
Aztecs- Tlaltecuhti- earth goddess mother
Austrailan Aboriginies- believed frogs brought rain
Japan-Kosensei
I need more coffee. I know I have to be missing some really obvious ones, but I just can't think of them! There's the princess kissing a frog, turning him into a prince.... Any more you can think of?
