One of the interesting things about being broadly read in a variety of subjects is being able to steal ideas that are formulated in one frame and apply them usefully to another.
For example, in one thread I pulled some terminology from BDSM to express thoughts about a concept, because it was handy and appropriate. There's discussion about religious or magical work with concepts from fiction in a different thread. People using bits of gaming systems to express ideas is pretty widespread (and frequently badly done, but that's a different subject).
What're your favorite weird non-religious places to pull ideas from to express religious concepts?
